“Sitting in Time” Website Design

History of Design Final Project | Instructor: Aysegul Kayagil

An Archive for designers and chair enthusiasts!

By creating a more inclusive and diverse learning platform, the project "Sitting in Time" aims to address the lack of representation of marginalized groups in design history and explore how ordinary objects– such as chairs, have characteristics and functions that reflect their history. Using an interactive website as its main platform to explore how each chair reflects the influences from its respective historical period, this project will highlight chairs designed by non-western designers to showcase a range of cultures, styles, or design movements that might not be known to designers. Additionally, this website will act as an archive for designers to look up and share their own chair designs!

Team Members: Heidi Han, Helen Wu, Fitriyanda Priyatna

This platform will utilize the website format to add interactive elements to create an engaging user experience that encourages anyone to explore the topic further. The website will display interactive 3D models of chairs, which the user can zoom and rotate from different angles.

Inspired by The MET’s  ‘Period Rooms’ we incorporated an AR feature that will have chairs presented in context. Similar to a showroom!

Ideally, we want everyone to use this website. So, we made it extra accessible and extra comfortable with dark mode and each text accompanied by an audio track

A tool for designers to learn history & make history by adding their own chair designs!

Tools used: Figma, Blender, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Glitch
